Field Trip: The Wreck of the Ada K. Damon

Standard

Happy last full day of summer!  I’ve had my nose to the grindstone working on a secret project (which I can’t wait to show you!) and nearly forgot to share these pictures.

Last month my family and I went to Crane Beach in Ipswich and took a walk to see something we had heard about:  the wreck of the Ada K. Damon.

When I read the story, I had ideas of something much larger, but all that is left of the ship, which wrecked on Crane Beach in 1909, is this skeleton, unearthed by the tides some years and buried in others.

You can read a full story of the shipwreck with many interesting pictures here.  It’s a sad story of a man who sold everything to buy a ship and then lost it all in a single, devastating storm.  For those of us today, it’s a chance to see history in person, even if it isn’t the massive ghost-ship of my very active imagination.  🙂
