If you had known me growing up (or if you did know me growing up), you would know what an unlikely title that is. I think I played with Barbies for about two weeks. I did not love dolls, princesses, or glitter. In short, I was a tomboy. Yet somehow, I had the good fortune to end up with my Mom’s childhood Barbie. I suppose it’s not Barbie herself that I find inspiring, but rather her stylin’ ’60’s wardrobe. The extra-cool thing about this wardrobe is that it’s not from the store. It was made by my grandmother, who is a master doll-clothing and stuffed animal seamstress.
Here are just a few articles in Barbie’s wardrobe.
Hm…Maybe Barbie needs a fashion shoot area so we can get a better view of those clothes…
Sorry, Barbie. I don’t feel like ironing right now. Maybe later.
I think I could really go for those blue cords, the yellow shirt, and that cozy white sweater right about now. It’s in the single digits here (Laugh away, Canadians. I fully acknowledge that you are tougher than people in Massachusetts.). That striped shirt and the shorts make me think about summer, which I try not to do in the middle of winter, but I think I might *need* something like that for the warmer months, don’t you?
Here’s how Barbie handles the cold:
If only we could all look that put together while walking our Scotty dog and our dinosaur.
Would it be more or less dangerous to wear fur if you owned a dinosaur, do you think? I’ll just leave you to ponder that question while you plan your own Barbie-inspired wardrobe.
I love this post so much. You crack me up. Especially the dinosaur on a leash. I want you to make yourself a matching set of outfits then have a joint fashion show with Barbie.
Go!

Thanks. It was eating the dog before, so this seemed like an improvement.

Boy do those clothes bring back memories. My mom made Barbie clothes and sold them in order to buy herself a new coat. She made amazing doll clothes. Love the dinosaur …that is epic!!! The clothes is still in such great condition, because you really did not play with dolls hardly ever. :o) I am glad you were able to preserve them so well…thanks, Lisa!!!
